Report Purpose

The primary objective of the report is to analyze the way Emerson has utilized Information Systems to improve company performance. For the purpose of this report we will be focusing on tangible improvements in performance that can be measured over the past 3-5 years, in order to maintain relevance. To draw a more definitive causal/effect relationship, we will be narrowing the scope to one particular Information System process, giving us the ability to elaborate on the strengths of it and the ways it improved the company in depth. Furthermore, we will be analyzing weaknesses that we have identified in the current Information System, as well as provide specific recommendations that we believe would drive further improvement for Emerson. The goal of our analysis is to not only highlight the way a specific Information System interacts within a larger framework such as with Emerson, but to highlight a conceptual strategy that will enable you to engage in similar analysis for your own Information Systems.

            Emerson is a company with a rich and robust history. Originally incorporated as the Emerson Electric Company, Emerson has been in business since 1890, over 130 years! From 2 Scottish brothers founding the company we can fast forward to the present day where Emerson has grown all the way to being #120 on today’s Fortune 500 list. Emerson currently employs around 76,500 employees spread out over more than 200 manufacturing locations around the globe. When Emerson was first incorporated it specialized in consumer electronics products, and had the first patent for the electric fan and was the first to sell them in the United States.
